LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT MARKING ONE YEAR SINCE MONTEREY PARK SHOOTING

LOS ANGELES, CA – Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued the following statement to mark one year since the mass shooting in Monterey Park, California.

One year ago today, 11 people were killed and nine more were injured in a senseless and horrific mass shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park, California, one of our nation’s most vibrant AAPI communities. This senseless attack on the eve of Lunar New Year turned a celebration of joy and light for the Asian American community into a day of terror.

Every community deserves to celebrate their culture and holidays without fear. House Democrats are praying for the Monterey Park community and the families of the victims as they continue to grieve this tremendous loss and we will keep fighting to end the scourge of gun violence once and for all.
