LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, in recognition of Women’s History Month, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement.

During Women’s History Month, we remember and honor the generations of trailblazing women, including Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, who have broken barriers and moved our country forward. Throughout history, women have been at the forefront of every movement, pushing our nation closer to its promise of liberty and justice for all. In the 118th Congress, we have more women serving than ever before and while we celebrate the progress that has been made, we also recognize that there is still work to be done.

Because of the radical, right-wing Supreme Court majority’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, this is the first year in our country’s history where women in America have seen one of their fundamental rights rolled back. House Democrats will continue to defend women’s freedom and stand up against the Extreme MAGA Republican attempts to criminalize abortion, outlaw contraception and force government-mandated pregnancies. This month and every month, we celebrate the women who have shaped our history and we recommit ourselves to the fight for true equality.
