Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is pushing to make the Prison Ship Martyr's Monument into a national monument. The 149-foot-tall monument stands atop a crypt holding the remains of some soldiers who were kept in horrific conditions on British prison ships during the Revolutionary War. More than 11,500 soldiers died in captivity on the British prison ships.

Jeffries said Nadler had worked for 20 years to get the beaches restored. “The devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy is indicative of the desperate need to restore and strengthen the South Brooklyn shoreline and surrounding infrastructure. I applaud Rep. Hakeem Jeffries. “The time has long past to stop criminalizing young men of color for possession of small amounts of marijuana, when affluent college students regularly evade prosecution. We should have one standard for everyone, and that is what this change in policy will help bring about.”
