Washington, DC – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement: 

The Supreme Court decision overturning the Chevron doctrine and 40 years of foundational legal precedent is a judicial power grab that poses a direct threat to a broad range of critical protections that Americans depend on in their daily lives. From food safety and civil rights enforcement to financial regulation and the environment, overturning Chevron will make it harder for public agencies to protect hardworking American taxpayers. 

The extreme right-wing legal movement will stop at nothing to replace congressional intent and agency expertise with the policy preferences of MAGA judges. This decision to promote and coddle corporate interests at the expense of the health, safety and wellbeing of the American people represents another stain on the legacy of this court. 

While extreme MAGA Republicans continue to prioritize the needs of large corporations and the ultra-wealthy, House Democrats will continue to stand on the side of everyday Americans.
