WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement: 

Today’s decision by the extreme, right-wing Supreme Court majority to flood our streets with weapons of war is dangerous, disastrous and deeply disturbing. Bump stocks are explicitly designed to inflict mass carnage and were rightfully banned following the Route 91 Harvest Festival massacre in Las Vegas, which remains the deadliest mass shooting in our nation’s history. By undoing this policy, the Court is putting countless American lives at risk. 

The Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act, introduced by Rep. Dina Titus, would ban these dangerous and deadly devices. House Republicans must immediately bring this legislation to the floor. Weapons of war have no place in a civilized society. It’s time for extreme MAGA Republicans to join us in the fight to achieve commonsense gun safety, or get out of the way.
