Rep. Jeffries Stands With Israel Before Thousands of New Yorkers
NEW YORK – On Monday, just steps from United Nations headquarters, U.S. Representative Hakeem Jeffries joined over 10,000 New Yorkers in support of Israel. The rally, hosted by the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York and UJA-Federation of New York, was held to show unity in support for Israel as it continues to fight Hamas.
In a rousing speech before thousands in attendance, Jeffries posited, “We know Israel lives in a very tough neighborhood, and there are certain realities to that. We mourn the loss of civilian life on both sides of the conflict. But when you live in a tough neighborhood Israel should not be made to apologize for its strength. You know why? Because the only thing that neighbors respect in a tough neighborhood is strength.”
Earlier in his speech, Rep. Jeffries declared: “Israel has a right to exist as a democratic Jewish state and no one can take that away. Israel has the right to defend itself against aggression – particularly when that aggression is directed at its civilian population. Israel is here to stay and it will remain forever.”
Other notable rally participants included Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Ron Prosor, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) and the Israeli Consul General Ido Aharoni.
