LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement: 

For nearly 50 years, Roe v. Wade ensured that women in our country had the freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions. In 2022, this fundamental right was stripped away by a radical, right-wing Supreme Court majority as part of the extreme MAGA Republican plan to criminalize abortion care, outlaw contraception and march us toward a nationwide abortion ban. 

A woman’s health care decisions should be between her, her family and her doctor. House Democrats will continue to defend reproductive freedom, crush the extreme MAGA Republican effort to criminalize abortion care and fight until the Women’s Health Protection Act is the law of the land.
