Rep. Jeffries Appointed to the U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee
Washington, DC – On the heels of his recent election as Whip of the Congressional Black Caucus, U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) has been selected to serve on the powerful U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee.
The committee has jurisdiction over general education and workforce matters including the debate over Common Core, President Obama’s efforts to make college more affordable and the minimum wage.
Rep. Jeffries said: “It’s an honor and a privilege to be appointed to the Education and Workforce Committee, which will be the battleground in the fight for a living wage and other important pocket-book issues for working and middle-class Americans. As a member of this Committee, I look forward to fighting for educational excellence, college affordability and economic justice for all Americans.”
In addition to membership on the House Education and the Workforce Committee, during the 114th Congress, Rep. Jeffries will also serve on the House Judiciary Committee and the Democratic Caucus Steering and Policy Committee.
