Washington, DC – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:

President Biden’s comprehensive ceasefire agreement has returned American and Israeli hostages to their families and surged humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in need. We cannot rest until the remaining hostages held captive in Gaza return home, and the agreement is fully implemented for the good of Israel and the Palestinian people.

Our commitment to Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and Democratic state and eternal homeland for the Jewish people is ironclad. At the same time, America must support those Palestinians who legitimately desire a life filled with self-determination and peace in Gaza and the West Bank. A just and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinian people is the objective, and that should inevitably lead to a two-state solution.
