LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT MARKING FIVE YEARS SINCE THE EL PASO SHOOTING
San Francisco, CA – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement marking five years since the deadly shooting in El Paso, Texas.
Five years ago, a gunman terrorized the El Paso community and stole 23 innocent lives in a massacre motivated by racism, xenophobia and white nationalist conspiracy theories. We will never forget the lives lost or the resilience of those injured on that tragic day. Today, we continue to pray for the victims, their families and the entire El Paso Community.
As House Democrats, we will continue to call out the dangerous, un-American, anti-immigrant rhetoric that fueled this tragedy and keep up our fight to get deadly weapons of war off our streets. America cannot be the best version of herself until we crush the scourge of gun violence once and for all.
May God bless the city of El Paso, our Latino brothers and sisters and every community that has felt the pain and heartache of our gun violence epidemic.
