Washington, DC – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement: 

Today, the Supreme Court had the opportunity to make it clear, once and for all, that the EMTALA law protects access to emergency abortions in every state. The right-wing majority chose not to do so. 

As a result, the lives of women across the country will continue to be at risk. Even with this temporary reprieve, the chaos and confusion caused by state abortion bans will still prevent doctors from providing critical medical care to their patients. It is unfortunate that the extreme, right-wing Supreme Court majority will continue the effort to jam their far-right views down the throats of the American people. 

House Democrats will continue to fight until reproductive freedom is the law of the land.
