LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT MARKING FIVE YEARS SINCE THE TREE OF LIFE SYNAGOGUE SHOOTING
Brooklyn, NY – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:
Five years ago today, 11 Jewish people were targeted and murdered by a white supremacist in a brutal attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was the deadliest act of antisemitic violence in American history.
Antisemitic incidents are on the rise both here and abroad. Our Jewish brothers and sisters – in America, in Israel and around the world – continue to fear for their safety because of who they are and what they believe. Antisemitism has no place in our nation. Every American deserves to practice their religion without fear and live without the threat of gun violence.
Today, I join people of goodwill throughout America in solidarity with the families of the victims. May their memories be a blessing and may we recommit ourselves to combating antisemitism, preventing gun violence and ensuring a tragedy like this never happens again.
