House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries issued the following statement on recent comments made by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas:

The statement by President Mahmoud Abbas minimizing the Holocaust and distorting historical fact was vile, hateful and dangerously antisemitic. The Holocaust was a uniquely horrific crime against humanity that viciously targeted the Jewish community, resulting in the murder of six million Jews, including children. During this moment of rising antisemitic hate in America and throughout the world, we need responsible leadership that brings people together, not words that fan the flames of hatred. We will continue to fight antisemitism until it is crushed to the ground, whenever and wherever it is found.
