BROOKLYN, NY — Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement after Texas Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk’s extreme decision to suspend FDA approval of mifepristone: 

“The Extreme MAGA Republican assault on abortion care, reproductive freedom and democracy is spreading across America like a malignant tumor. These right-wing ideologues are determined to jam their extreme views down the throats of the American people. We must all speak up, show up and stand up until the far-right uprising is peacefully and democratically crushed. 

A rogue, reckless and extreme right-wing Texas judge appointed by the twice-impeached former president has struck a blow against the reproductive freedom of tens of millions of American women. Mifepristone is a safe and effective medication that has been used for decades as a form of reproductive health care. 

Last month, House Democrats reintroduced the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify under federal law the right to receive and give abortion care. House Democrats will always fight to protect reproductive freedom and we will not rest until this legislation is the law of the land.”
