LEADER JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON THE NOMINATION OF JULIE SU AS U.S. SECRETARY OF LABOR
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement after President Biden announced he is nominating Deputy Secretary Julie Su to be the Secretary of Labor.
Congratulations to Julie Su on her well-deserved nomination to serve as the 30th Secretary of Labor. Throughout her time at the Department of Labor, Deputy Secretary Su has been a champion for organized labor and has helped to ensure that our economic recovery puts American workers first.
This announcement also comes as House Democrats are introducing the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize Act, which will defend the right to bargain for higher wages, better benefits and safer workplaces. We look forward to working with Deputy Secretary Su to advance this legislation as a critical part of our continued efforts to build our economy from the bottom up and the middle out.
House Democrats are grateful to outgoing Secretary Marty Walsh for his friendship and service as Secretary of Labor. A card-carrying union member himself, Secretary Walsh is a relentless fighter for American workers, who have benefited immensely from his efforts.
