Internships are available throughout the fall, spring and summer semesters for college students. The hours are flexible to accommodate students’ hectic course schedules, but generally take place during office hours Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All interns must be high school graduates who are enrolled in or have recently graduated from an accredited post-secondary educational institution, college or university. We are seeking applicants with a mature, professional manner who are well-organized, efficient and self-motivated. Women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, veterans and those with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Summer 2024 Internship Applications are open. This application is for in-person paid internship opportunities in the Office of Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries for Summer 2024. The application will close on Friday, April 5, 2024 at 11:59 PM. Summer Internships span from May to August 2024. The following internships are offered in the D.C. office:

Executive Office Intern: The House Democratic Leader’s Office is seeking motivated, detail-oriented interns to work full-time, in-person in a fast-paced leadership office. Intern responsibilities include supporting our legislative team, administrative work, research, memo writing, event planning and assisting the Executive Office.

Digital Media Intern: The House Democratic Leader’s Office seeks a motivated, detail-oriented Digital Media Intern to work full-time in a fast-paced leadership office. The intern will assist in creating content for various digital platforms. Knowledge of social content creation, graphic design, video editing software and other creative design programs (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.) is required. Ideal applicants will be able to write, edit and proofread under tight deadlines, and handle multiple assignments simultaneously. 

Press Intern: The House Democratic Leader’s Office seeks highly motivated Press interns to work full-time, in-person in a fast-paced leadership office. Responsibilities include compiling daily press clips, drafting preparation materials for media hits and assisting with press-related events. Ideal applicants will be able to write, edit and proofread under tight deadlines, handle multiple assignments simultaneously and stay on top of the news.

District interns will witness the day to day delivery of services to constituents and other field activities that are essential to my work in Congress. Responsibilities vary but will include research for constituents, assisting with Congressional events, answering phones, writing letters and other general office duties. Fluency in a second language is desirable, but not required.
