Rep. Jeffries introduced the Prison Ship Martyrs' Monument Preservation Act, H.R.1501 which would require the Department of the Interior to conduct a feasibility study on whether the Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument in Fort Greene Park should be protected by being deemed a national monument under the Antiquities Act. -
Rep. Jeffries Discusses Federal Disaster Relief Funding on "All In With Chris Hayes"
On the "All In with Chris Hayes" show, Rep. Jeffries discussed the need for "swift, compassionate and thorough" passage of federal disaster relief funding for affected areas. He specifically cited an unnecessary 78 day wait for passage of the much-needed Sandy supplemental for affected areas paralyzed by the storm in October 2012. -
Rep. Jeffries Defends America's College Students Facing Loan Debt
Rep. Jeffries introduced H.R. 1498, a bill that aims to extend the 3.4% interest rate for Federal Direct Stafford Loans for one year. Currently, these interest rates will double to 6.8 % on July 1.

Washington, D.C. – On May 7, 2013, Rep. Jeffries was appointed to the newly established House Judiciary Committee Over-Criminalization Task Force. Over the next six months, this bipartisan body of five Democrats and five Republicans will examine federal criminal laws and recommend improvements to the full Judiciary Committee. The task force is led by Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.) and Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-Va.).
